GOOD START TO SEASON 6!!!
The producers of “The Middle” gave Axl fans a lot to celebrate in the Season 6 premiere on Sept. 24, 2014. Even though the season premiere was a normal half-hour episode for the first time since Season 3, there was plenty of eye candy to see. In a first-half scene, Axl is trying to get some rest while Brick ruminates over how to tote around his school supplies. Not long afterward, we see classic Axl in his boxers in the kitchen ribbing Sue for the dental drift she experienced when Frankie told her orthodontist (played in another great cameo by Richard “Spin City” Kind) to rip off the blasted things for the “Year of Sue”. The Axe Man is there at the fridge, sucking down milk from the carton, just like old times.
It’s good to be back!
The only things that bugged this blogger were:
1. The basketball scenes - Axl is, what, 20 now? He’s a MAN. Lots of men - particularly athletes - are proud of their bodies. For a pick-up game of basketball, why wasn’t that tank top of his off, at least when he got more serious and into the game? We saw the sweat, but we wanted to see more! In Indiana in September it’s not freezing yet, so the writers could have worked that in, don’tcha think?
2. In the bedroom - sleeping under the covers?? It only made sense as far as his wanting to shut out light but really, no chance for him to sit up completely upright?
3. The kitchen scene with the entire family - he’s at the fridge. Why didn’t we get a closer shot of him? Why have the show’s best asset at a distance? A little more creativity…
I am going to throw down a challenge to the producers and writers - Axl is a dude. Axl is a dude with an EGO. There is almost nothing bashful about this guy. When he’s on campus, SHOW THAT. College guys - at least when the weather permits (and even sometimes when it doesn’t) go shirtless, at least during the early fall and spring months. Even in the dorms, they are not terribly body-shy - and in a co-ed dorm where Axl stays - HELLLOOOOOO!!! Time to impress the ladies!!! Shape the Axl character as the college man he is, not the kid he was. End of soapbox.
To Charlie - another great episode, bud. Keep it coming! You’re the best.
Finally - you will see the Axl Chest-O-Meter has gotten a face lift for Season 6. Enjoy!!! And since there were a decent number of shots with the Axe Man shirtless, the needle is near the right side of the dial - just where we want it (wink, wink).
If the other 21 episodes are just a wee bit better than this one, we’re in for one season of AWESOMENESS.
See you next week!
